St. Mary’s Basilica is the oldest church in Bengaluru (Shivajinagar) and is the only church in the state (of Karnataka) that has been elevated to the status of a minor basilica. It is famous for the festivities it holds during the St. Mary’s Feast, in September each year, an event which attracts a large number of devotees from in and around Bangalore.

St. Mary’s Basilica is a spacious gothic-style Church built in the form of a cross, designed by a French architect. A beautiful statue of Mother Mary holding Child Jesus in her arms, 6 feet in height, is set up in an attractive shrine just outside the Church building. It is the chief object of veneration and a source of inspiration for the people.

Commercial Street

It is 0.9 km away from St. Mary’s Basilica. One of the oldest and busiest shopping areas of the city. The street is famous for its trade in clothes, footwear, jewellery, electronics and food joints.


Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum

The museum is 1.8 km from the church. If you are curious about science and how things work, this is a place that you must visit. It is a treat for learners. This is Karnataka’s Top Museum and a bank of knowledge; it exhibits engines of various cars, machines which are used in an industry, a jet aircraft engine and other mechanical devices.


Vidhana Soudha

Vidhana Soudha is situated 1.9 km from St. Mary’s Basilica. Any old-time residents of Bengaluru  will point you towards Vidhana Soudha, also known as people’s palace, when asked about that one structure in the city that stands out for its sheer majesty spread over 60 acres; it houses the legislature and the Secretariat of the state of Karnataka.


Cubbon Park

The park is 1.8 km away from the church. Cubbon Park was basically designed as a public park in an area of about 100 acres and has been expanded over the years. The park has a predominant green area with a few concrete buildings, housing government and other organizations and offices.
