….

what do you think

India has a great batting line up and a bowling line up to complement it. Their top 3 is one of the best in the world with Rohit and Virat being the two highest run getters in ODIs after the last world cup. The no. 4 debate has been resolved by K L Rahul’s fine knock on the practice match. In Dhoni and Pandya they have two in form finishers. The two wrist spinners are the envy of any team and the pace trio of Bumrah, Bhubi and Shami can breathe fire down the opposition’s neck. In Kedar and Jadeja they have two good utility players. The back ups, Vijay and Karthik are also good. India should at least make the semi finals.

World cup this year unlike the recent World Cup editions, the teams would not be divided into groups. Instead each team plays each team once and compete to lead a single points table.

Top 4 teams would directly qualify into the semi-finals in the knockout stages. Since each team gets and opportunity to face every team in the tournament, the competition would be cut-throat and pretty fair.

We have seen England play tremendous ODIs in the past couple of years in their den, so they undoubtedly are one the favorites of the tournament. Posting 481 as the historic highest ever score posted in an One-Day International match, England showed their most dangerous side.

India has shown some flamboyant form in England’s den in the premium ICC tournament we call the Champions trophy. Both in the 2013 and 2017 editions they showed their supreme form, qualifying for the finals in both and also winning one in 2013. Though some part of the squad may not look the same which toured England in these years, most have experience playing in England and major squad have also won the trophy. Players like Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar are some but heavy contributors of the 2013 edition and also mutual members in the World Cup 2019 squad. World no. 1, 2 batsman both are Indians (Kohli, Rohit) and as well World no.1 bowler INDIAN(Bumrah). This is enough to scare the fellow competitiors.

Since the ban of Warner and Smith from the Australian team for a year, the Australians saw one of the worst cricketing career losing many matches in ODIs back to back. But they showed class just before World Cup season starts against Pakistan in the 5-match ODI series whitewashing them showing no mercy at all and coming back in their true colours. Interestingly this is all without the return of Warner and Smith. Once their addition is done this team can turn into a beast.

Three of my favorites in this season should be undoubtedly: The Hosts, The Men In Blue and the Defending Champions.

I think the world cup this year will be special for Indians particularly because MS Dhoni will be retiring after this years world cup and hence the stakes are high

Rohit Sharma has got in some seriously good nick and though his opening partner will change, we can only expect more runs from this prolific player.

Shakib Al Hasan has been brilliant in the matches he has played and as the Bangladesh no. 3, he is no pushover. Certainly one of the candidates for the highest run getter this tournament.

There is of course the David. David Warner has notched up a great century vs Pakistan and he will be a great contender for this spot.

Well you can never rule out Virat Kohli. He certainly is a force to reckon with in these kind of situations. He has started to get into runs and who knows how much he will amass.

Jason Roy. He is in a great form and playing enterprising cricket, and might just become the highest run getter of this world cup.
