CHHAVI MITTAL & MOHIT HUSSEIN

SIT was founded by the husband wife duo, in May 2015. Mohit & Chhavi are well-known names in the film & television fraternity. While Mohit has had a successful stint as a film and TV director for 17 years, Chhavi has been an actor/anchor for as long. What makes SIT videos so relatable is the fact that they are passionately written by Mohit and Chhavi together, bringing out the essence of real life situations in the form of quirky videos mixed with Mohit's incredible one-liners. Together with their esotericism, they drive SIT forward. Chhavi is also seen acting in many of the videos.

Let's find out more about SIT by Chhavi Mittal in this exclusive inteview with Huntsends.

 1. Where did the idea for your channel/content come from?

Mohit was extremely busy with directing TV shows like Bade Acche LagteHain, Pavitra Rishta, Tu Mera Hero etc and I was busy looking after the baby. We both decided that it was time make a change since we could be living our lives separately and away from each other all the time. After contemplating various options of businesses that we could do, we decided content creation was the only thing Mohit knew, and acting was the only thing I did! At least at that time that’s what we thought. Hence was born Shitty Ideas Trending.

  1. What do you do to overcome a writer’s block or when you need to think of content for a new video?

Oh if I told you I would have to kill you! But yes, writer’s block was such a real thing I only realised once we started SIT. But the good thing is that we always remember the reason we started this, and that is to not stress our lives so much that we forget to live. So when we reach that block, we just give it time. We actually go to the mall, shop, have coffee, sometimes even go for a vacation. Trust me, that always works!

  1. What are some tips behind making a comedy or a joke which is safe for the audience and does not hurt their feelings in any way?

There’s no trick really. People who get offended often get offended for the wrong reasons. We don’t try to please anybody while creating content. All we do is try to be real and true to ourselves & our subscribers.

  1. What are your favourite movies?

Mohit loves to watch good cinema (read Oscar winning films) while I love to watch meaningless films (read, a film which I can watch while playing a game on the mobile). So there is a mix of films that we like for eg. Forrest Gump, Sholay, Parinda, Pursuit of Happyness, Titanic, Tiger Zinda Hai etc. Now don’t ask me which one is meaningful and which one is meaningless 😉

  1. What movie quotes do you use on a regular basis?

Oh Mohit loves using quotes from Parinda since the dialogues was written by his father Imteyaz Hussein. We also love to quote Shahrukh Khan from DDLJ (sometimes it’s just unavoidable!) But more often than that, Mohit’s one liners are so cult in themselves, that we take pride in the fact that other people quote SIT lines!

  1. What fictional character would you love to play from a movie or a book?

I would love to play any character from Friends. I would also love to play wonder-woman (or any action film heroine) for the sheer beauty of the action sequences! I know I can never though, since my bones are so brittle ;). But on a more serious note, I would love to play CharlizeTheron from the film Monster.

  1. What’s the most adventurous thing you have ever done?

After the baby, stepping out in the night feels like the most adventurous! Haha! Not adventurous, but definitely the wildest thing would be to give up on our extremely lucrative careers and starting a business we knew nothing about putting everything on the line. Digital world is so fast. It changes before you learn the current ways.

  1. What’s the funniest comedy skit you’ve seen.

There are so many different sketches today that are so good and funny! It’s impossible to name just one. Every sketch is creative in its own unique way - the only ones that are not are the ones that are trying to ape somebody else.

  1. What tips or tricks have you picked up from your job / jobs?

So many! The most important for me is that you don’t fail till you give up. So being consistent is important. Also, you can’t please everyone so understanding your audience and studying them. I have also learnt that each individual viewer is important and I have interacted with so many of them on a personal level.

  1. What about the opposite sex confuses you the most?

For me, the opposite sex is pretty easy to understand since I feel men are very non-confusing people. Pretty straightforward. For Mohit, he is quite baffled by the way I react to situations and the way my feelings are sometimes all over the place. I can do the same thing because I love him, and the same thing because I want to get back at him!

  1. What life skills are rarely taught but extremely useful?

The skill of filtering out “what people say”. Sadly due to the social media savvy generation, FOMO is becoming a real threat. What is the most important is what makes you happy and not what people think about you.

  1. What are your current favourite TV shows?

Friends, friends and friends.

  1. Who inspires you the most?

I draw inspiration from a lot of people and a lot of things around me. It sometimes amazes me to see how many different ways a thing can be done in, and I don’t want to stick to just one.

  1. What’s the best advice you’ve ever got?

Your talent is your own and nobody can take that away from you. So just do your best, cause that’s the best you can do.

  1. Who do you really want to meet but haven’t had the chance to yet?

Farhan Akhtar and Aamir Khan.

  1. What values are most important to you?

Family love is above everything else in the world. Everything else is meaningless without it. Mohit and I both swear by that.

  1. What were the three most important turning points in your life?

The first was my meeting Mohit. He changed my life in so many ways. Second was having my daughter. It was my second birth, my second innings. And the third was founding Shitty Ideas Trending. It made me get introduced to my talents that I didn’t even know existed in me!
